So like is the red stone like the blood being pumped by the heart? And the weaker the heart the less blood being transmitted?

I know I'm late to this, but something that, in my opinion, would be really cool, is having that heartbeat be audible not only from anywhere in the base, but from a decent distance away, too. Not only would you be able to tell how it's doing without even going in, but anyone who got near would immediately be completely aware of its presence. It would make the base feel like some sort of ancient, primal, and incredibly powerful being that's been lying dormant for millenia, and should continue to do so for many more, lest something horrible occur.

take a note lock away from the lowest module and add more to the one in the heart, so it gets stronger as you're closer whole you're inside the base

Hello Mumbo I loved your living base idea and so did me mate, we are going for a massive dense forest jungle Avatar(James Cameron) style hyper connected multi tier ecosystem with a very natural kind of meandering build style. We see you struggling with the golden apple so we opted for a still kind of challenging resource, honey.... anyway one of the penalties for not feeding the base is stored mobs will be released to reek havoc you should do something similar
